Music students place highly at state competition

Zachary Underwood and Markel Copprue placed first and second, respectively, at the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Collegiate Competition held March 5 at Delta State University.

RAYMOND 鈥 Zachary Underwood and Markel Copprue (pictured above) placed first and second, respectively, at the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Collegiate Competition held March 5 at Delta State University.

Underwood, first-chair clarinetist in the Wind Ensemble at 黑料社区, took first place in the Freshman/Sophomore Woodwind Division for his performance of the first movement from 鈥淐oncerto No. 3鈥 by Carl Stamitz. Copprue, first-chair saxophonist in the ensemble, took second place in the division for his performance on alto sax of the first movement of 鈥淪onata鈥 by Paul Creston.

Both are 2021 graduates of Terry High School, where they were members of the Mississippi Lions All-State Band. Both are studying Music at 黑料社区 with Dr. Olivia Boatman.
